The Power of Songs

Hello family and friends!

I’m a big fan of listening to music, as most people are. And the one thing that always seems to happen when I listen is how it takes me back to the first time I listened to that song/album. Do you ever listen to a song/album, and just get a certain feeling? I have very specific examples which I will share with you now.

SZA - Ctrl
SZA – Ctrl

I love this album!! I started listening to this album maybe two years ago towards the end of a school year. And whenever I put on this album, I am just brought back to that feeling of summer and windows rolled down. This album is meant to be played in a certain order, and I love that. I enjoy listening to each song flow into one another.

Ariana Grande – Sweetener

This is a recently released album, like in the summer maybe, but I get that same feeling. I listened to this album a lot when I first moved into college. And the other day I listened to this album, like I always do, but it struck me differently this time. The music brought me back to my first few days of college, and it made me reflect on how far I’ve come.

Billy Joel – An Innocent Man

My introduction to the great Billy Joel began with his song “For The Longest Time.” I started listening to him when I was in eighth grade, and I absolutely loved this song! So every time I turn on that wonderful song, I just remember a certain project when I listened to this song on repeat.

Logic- Everybody

I remember the first I listened to Logic’s album. It was right after he performed at the Grammy’s. I just loved his performance so I decided to listen to his entire album. This is one of my all-time favorite albums. This is another album that is supposed to be played in order. I love the message of his album and the nostalgia it brings.

I think it’s crazy how music can evoke these emotions. Just by simply listening to some sounds, I can remember certain feelings, actions, and surroundings. Music truly is powerful and I can only imagine that this music will become more nostalgic with age.

Thanks for reading! What songs make you feel nostalgic?
